A Bartholin cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that develops in one of the Bartholin glands, located on either side of the vaginal opening. These glands secrete fluids that keep the vagina lubricated.
When the gland duct is blocked, fluid accumulates, forming a cyst. In some cases, the cyst can become infected, resulting in a painful abscess.
